                                                     "KONA'S ART"

We would like to share with you the history of this artist that created "Kona's Art". Kona is a forty-eight year old woman who was born with a learning disability that she was able to manage with her hard work, determination, and will.  She was always active participating in sports and dancing.  At the age of thirteen she was the first local island girl to participate in a full contact fight with enlisted Marines on a military base and winning several tournaments.  Her schoolmates and friends had no idea growing up alongside Kona that she had any interest in martial arts.  She kept this secret to herself as she felt this to be her special gift to be blessed with such energy with no intention of boasting.

About six years ago she was diagnosed with colon cancer, like any normal person was depress and devastated because as far back as anyone can remember, she has always kept her body in the best shape.  Enduring chemotherapy and the sickness that comes with it, Kona seemed to still manage to get out of bed daily to walk a few miles.

To complicate matters in Kona's life, a year later her only younger brother whom she was extremely close to passed away from lymphoma and not to long after her youngest sister died suddenly. The grieving she endured no one will be able to comprehend as her daily walks became longer.

During her walks she noticed all of the things that people threw away on garbage pick up days. She started to collect these recyclable items while piling up in her 2-bedroom apartment.

One day while lying ill she decided to sit up and take apart some of the items she had collected from long her walks and using her imagination she began to create.  "Kona's Art" was born.

Kona is still battling cancer, but in the mean time, we hope you will be inspired by this woman’s life and how she lives it to the fullest.  Her family feels that the art she has created is uniquely incredible to look at and wanted her to share her art with the world.  Each piece is a "one of a kind" just like Kona.
